HBC Code of Conduct

Purpose

This Code sets out the minimum behavioural values of the Heathmont Bowls Club (HBC). The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to ensure an enjoyable, comfortable, safe and rewarding environment for anyone who represents, supports or visits HBC. It applies when visiting, playing, training, volunteering or taking part in club sanctioned activities and it also applies when we open our Club to visitors and guests.

Compliance

This Code of Conduct is in accordance with Bowls Victoria affiliation requirements and the Victorian Government Code of Conduct for Community Sport and is based on a model of mutual respect. Any breaches of this Code of Conduct will be regarded seriously and potentially be subject to disciplinary action. HBC expects all members, employees and visitors whilst on the premises or representing the Club to abide by the following Code of Conduct.

The Code

• Comply with the Laws of the Sport of Bowls, Constitutional Rules and By-Laws as laid down by Bowls Australia, Bowls Victoria and the Heathmont Bowls Club

• Respect the position of HBC Board of Management, Office bearers, Committee members and employees of the Club

• Adhere to the dress code and comply with the etiquette of lawn bowls including true sportsmanship and the spirit of fair play

• Do not tolerate or participate in any obscene, abusive, racial, discriminatory, defamatory or objectionable language

• Be friendly, courteous and respectful towards other members, visitors, opponents and officials. Participating in a manner unbecoming of a member or prejudicial to the purposes and interests of the club will not be tolerated.

• Respect the rights, dignity, obligations and worth of every person, regardless of their age, race, gender, ability, cultural background, sexuality or religion

• Ensure dogs are not brought inside the Bowls Club unless they are an Accredited Assistance Dog. Dogs are permitted on the deck, outdoor spaces and surrounds of the greens (but not on the actual greens) provided that the dog is on a leash and under the control of its owner and not disrupting other members and visitors to the Club.

• Make decisions and take actions that contribute to a safe environment which is free of sexual discrimination and harassment

• Abide by the statutory liquor licensing requirements displayed by the venue and adhere to staff discretion and direction regarding the serving and in particular the termination of serving alcohol

• Smoke cigarettes and vapour E-cigarettes only in allocated smoking areas.

• Do not condone or partake in alcohol or substance abuse

• Do not remove or damage any property owned or under the control of the Club

Comply with all Club directions.

All members are expected to help to ensure behaviour is appropriate by reminding any offending members of their obligations; however, this must be done tactfully and calmly. The only reasonable and acceptable response is to remind the offender they are breaching the Code of Conduct and walk away and report the matter to a member of the HBC Board.

Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains relevant to Club operations and reflects both community expectations and legal requirements.
